Bacterial biofilms are community of microorganisms which adhere to a surface and have a significant role in the fight against bacterial infections. Biofilms help bacteria to stand antibiotics and antimicrobials and present a severe threat in healthcare as well as in food and pharma industry. A multistep dynamical process controls the formation of biofilm, whose steps are physico-chemically controlled, from the transport towards a surface to the final detachment.
The Mechanobiology Research Center will develop a 3D multiphysics computational model which will be experimentally supported and validated in collaboration with Copan.
